5300 McConnell — Los Angeles, CA
Architect: Shubin Donaldson

The project at 5300 McConnell involved repositioning a dated 73,000 SF building from 1984 into a modern, visually striking office in the Playa Vista Tech District. Clad in bold red metal enclosures and dark zinc panels, the design aims to attract creative office tenants.
At night, an illuminated exterior screen creates a welcoming, lantern-like glow. High-performance insulated glass enhances energy efficiency, while new convenience stairs, shade features, architectural screens, and skylights improve functionality and natural light. LFA reinforced the structural system and ensured compliance with stringent life safety standards, making the building suitable for Kaiser’s occupancy. The result is a refined, balanced space that meets the needs of today’s tenants.
